A 7 in a row of 10 always covers the middle four. Five ideas like this solve almost every puzzle.

What is a nonogram?

A nonogram is a grid puzzle you solve with logic. Every row and column has a clue: the lengths of its runs of filled squares, in order, with at least one empty square between runs. Fill the squares you can prove, cross out the ones that must stay empty, and the grid slowly turns into a picture or a pattern.

The puzzle goes by several names. Depending on where you met it, you may know it as picross, griddlers or hanjie; the rules are the same everywhere.

There is a new daily nonogram each day, the same board for everyone. Boards come in five sizes: 5×5 to start with, 10×10 for a quick one, 15×15 for the classic, and 20×20 or 25×25 when you want a long solve. New to them? How to play walks through the rules and the five techniques that solve almost every puzzle.
